TOMIO SEIKE
Tomio Seike was born in 1943 in Tokyo. After finishing his studies at the Japan Photographic Academy in 1970, he started working as a photographer’s assistant. In 1975, he began to do freelance photography, working mostly in the fashion industry and as a portrait photographer. Seike makes his small-format sepia-toned prints so carefully that he regularly produces only four or five new images each year. Perhaps best known for his portrait series of artist Zoe Leonard, Seike also created a series of classic nudes, a study of Paris and, most recently, abstracted waterscapes.
Seike has been exhibiting his work worldwide since the early 1980s. He lives in Tokyo, London, and Paris.
