Bal is a tapestry crafted from traditional Korean knots of cotton ropes and adorned with the Chil-bo (cloisonné) technique, a traditional method for decorating metal objects.
This piece, by WKND Lab, showcases the Korean traditional knot-making method reimagined into a contemporary design, honoring the traditional knot - making process with sustainable, animal cruelty-free materials.
Each knot is meticulously handcrafted and tied, blending Korean traditional techniques with modern tapestry methods. Representing a fusion of wisdom passed down through generations, this project emphasizes collaboration with traditional craftsmen deserving of greater recognition, embodying the ethos of long-term sustainability.
When Tiger Used to Smoke: Design Collection implies the idea of long-term sustainability by working with masters of each field who deserve much more recognition and incorporating modern furniture design with their traditional culture to make it more approachable.
