This exceptional multi-piece installation stands out as a definitive statement in contemporary ceramic sculpture, actively bridging the gap between functional heritage and modern conceptual storytelling. Hand-built from rich, unglazed red stoneware, each standalone figure features a solid globular base that references traditional Spanish water jugs and ancestral pottery. Rising from the vessel shoulders, flat two-dimensional frameworks climb upward into symmetrical patterns of vertical columns and sweeping arches that echo historic bell towers and traditional filigree ornamentation. By balancing raw material density with precise negative space, Heras turns traditional utility into a sophisticated minimalist monument, delivering a premier archive-quality centerpiece custom-tailored for high-end contemporary art collections.

This series explores the relationship between earthy material and organic form. Handmade sculptures emerge as if grown rather than built—irregular, asymmetric, and alive. They suggest plants, stones, iron, and roots, creating a visceral tension between cold, inert clay and vibrant, living shapes. Each one of a kind sculpture is a study in balance, pushing the limits of traditional ceramic work, and reflecting the artist’s deep connection to nature.

Aniana's sculptures frequently reference utilitarian forms, spiritual symbols, or imagined rituals. She is interested in the tension between surface and volume, simplicity and complexity, art and craft. For her, ceramics is not only a medium but a way of thinking and being—an exploration of obsolete technologies, slow processes, and the urgent need for low-tech, mindful creative spaces.

  • Aniana Heras is a Spanish ceramic sculptor based in Berlin. Born in the countryside of Sigüenza (Guadalajara, Spain) and trained in arts and design in Madrid and Barcelona, she spent over 15 years working as a digital designer before turning to clay in 2022. What began as an experiment quickly became a vital, physical and meditative practice—an anchor to presence and a way to reconnect with the material world.

Largely self-taught, Heras has developed a body of work that is both earthy and conceptually rich. Her handmade, one of a kind sculptures often arise from improvisation, guided by the act of making itself. Through her practice, she explores ideas of timelessness, balance, and contrast—tradition versus innovation, function versus form. Her pieces challenge both material and meaning, drawing inspiration from traditional Spanish pottery, contemporary sculpture, architecture, and design.
