This breathtaking contemporary photogram photography polyptych installation. Formulated as a synchronized four-piece multi-panel installation printed using premium archival pigments on museum-grade Hahnemühle paper, the unique masterpiece showcases Huang's mastery in adapting camera-less darkroom historical processes into contemporary visual art. The project utilizes direct objects placed over photosensitive papers exposed to strategic light beams to map out negative shadow images varying in tone depending on transparency fields. Tracking the radiant silhouettes of traditional water jugs, ceramic pitchers, ritual chalices, and floating light particles that rise above solid black backdoors to evoke a poetic narrative about displacement and the ocean.
This project uses photograms, which are unique abstract photographs created without a camera by placing objects on photosensitive paper and exposing it to light. The result is a negative shadow image varying in tone, depending on transparency of the objects used. Areas of the paper that have received no light appear light; those exposed through transparent or semi-transparent objects appear dark.
