The artwork showcases an immersive narrative that pushes the boundaries of eco-conscious interior design by transforming discarded oyster shells sourced directly from Korea’s oceans. The structural proposal pulverizes and mixes the shells into a robust architectural composite, forming tiles with exquisite raw textures to address sustainability through a functional system. The design relies on three unique modular blocks designated as H, U, and I units, functioning as a structural foundation that offers unlimited architectural possibilities similar to how a single Lego brick builds a castle layout. The horizontal orientation anchors a powerful perspective structured around a balanced geometric environment, balancing the twin off-white modular side supports against a solid continuous black channel surface that rises effortlessly from clean studio margins.
HUI tiles and furniture are crafted design from recycled oyster shells. By powdering and mixing discarded shells sourced from Korea’s oceans, we create robust materials that are transformed into tiles with exquisite textures. While many artworks address themes of nature and sustainability, our goal was to take this a step further. To achieve this, we designed three unique tiles: H, U, and I, enabling diverse architectural designs. Our aim was to create not merely an object, but a unit offering unlimited possibilities—similar to how a single Lego block can be the foundation of a castle.
