This compelling designer ceramic sculpture in glazed stoneware commands physical and conceptual presence, acting as an intriguing investigation into visual perception and optical contradictions. Rising from a solid central ovoid core reminiscent of ancient pottery forms, the piece extends outward and upward through a perfectly symmetrical matrix of square side handles, stacked architectural windows, and a crowning structural arch. Heras masterfully coats the clay body in an intense, high-contrast pattern of horizontal black and cream stripes that warp along the container's swelling contours. By effectively merging a graphic linear style with complex three-dimensional forms, this fine artwork blurs the line between object and image, framing a sophisticated statement tailored for premier collections.

A playful and conceptual series of handmade sculptures where surface and form shift and deceive. The artist uses earthy materials to create visual contradictions—optical illusions, warped patterns, and unexpected geometry. Sometimes the surface drawings reinforce the shape, sometimes they contradict it. Each one of a kind sculpture is both an object and an image, a tactile experiment in perception. Graphic in style, yet sculptural in nature, these pieces challenge how we see and what we assume to understand.

  • Aniana Heras is a Spanish ceramic sculptor based in Berlin. Born in the countryside of Sigüenza (Guadalajara, Spain) and trained in arts and design in Madrid and Barcelona, she spent over 15 years working as a digital designer before turning to clay in 2022. What began as an experiment quickly became a vital, physical and meditative practice—an anchor to presence and a way to reconnect with the material world.

Largely self-taught, Heras has developed a body of work that is both earthy and conceptually rich. Her handmade, one of a kind sculptures often arise from improvisation, guided by the act of making itself. Through her practice, she explores ideas of timelessness, balance, and contrast—tradition versus innovation, function versus form. Her pieces challenge both material and meaning, drawing inspiration from traditional Spanish pottery, contemporary sculpture, architecture, and design.
