The abstract paintings on panel, "Expanded Metal Paintings," are the closest to the classical art of painting. First, the paint is applied with a brush to a primed canvas. Then, a metal mesh is dipped in black and white paint to create abstract patterns over the red and light gray areas. Similar to traditional planes with textiles, the metal mesh moves over the canvas like a mold. Fingerprints remain, as does any excess paint. The finished work conveys a tactile sensation; the form resembles calligraphy, highlighting the sensuality of the surface.
