Intervals n27 by artist Rosario Briones is a compelling original abstract expressionist painting from her celebrated Intervals series. Grounded in a luminous orange palette, the work captures the dynamic interplay between intention and chance as water acts as an active agent, moving and evaporating to leave organic topographies of pigment across the canvas. Rather than presenting a planned composition, this original abstract expressionist painting serves as a physical record of the ephemeral moment where color expands as both a material and emotional phenomenon, inviting viewers into a pure, immersive perceptual experience.
The series explores the expansion of color as both a physical and emotional phenomenon. Water, as an indeterminate agent, displaces and transforms pigment on the surface, generating compositions that arise not from planning but from the encounter between matter and gesture. Each abstract painting becomes a record of the ephemeral: the moment when water moves, evaporates, and leaves its mark. The work then turns into a topography of process, a map of the interaction between control and chance. Far from representation, these paintings propose a perceptual experience, inviting the viewer to inhabit the energy of color in its purest and most expansive state.
