LET ME TELL YOU A STORY SERIES

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE GAME SERIES

About the IT’S ALL ABOUT THE GAME series: The exploration of the concept of play as an artistic impulse presents playful, almost "baroque-written"photographs that are the result of a repeated (recycled) notion of play. Starting from the fact that every artistic work should be supported in an authentic experience, Dubravka Lazić restores the personal sense of play by using old, forgotten (but safeguarded) children's toys, creating new "worlds" through realistic models and presenting them through the medium of photography.

LET ME TELL YOU A STORY SERIES

About the LET ME TELL YOU A STORY series: The photos from the series Let Me Tell You a Story show, each one individually, certain themes through strongly narrative visual units. Each photograph is dedicated to a specific representation, a personal story, and is the result of a recorded assemblage composed of parts (objects that have a special meaning or prints made from assimilated, previously taken author's photographs).

The photographic analogue process is almost obsolete in today's age of modern technologies, but at the same time it is especially valuable for that very reason. By combining two photographic methodological principles: old and new photographic techniques, the series Let me tell you a story unites exactly these two approaches - digitally captured photos converted into large-format negatives and analog prints using photographic techniques (cyanotype) from the 19th century.

      LENKPLAY SERIES

About the LENKPLAY series: LenkPlay is a long-term photographic project rooted in the intimate terrain of motherhood, memory and the layered dimension of play. Created over the nine years, the series traces the evolving relationship between a mother and her daughter, capturing not only the passage of time but the shifting emotional textures of care, imagination and transformation.

One part of the series are color photographs of small plastic animal toys, placed in real outdoor environments. These staged scenes echo the imagined roles assigned to such toys by children, but also acquire new resonance through their dislocation – miniature creatures mimicking life in full-scale, often indifferent, landscapes. The contrast between the artificial and the real creates a visual tension, a conceptual „catch“, prompting viewers to re-engage with the sense of wonder, spontaneity and emotional projection that defines childhood play.

      PORTRAITS SERIES

About the PORTRAITS series: In this early photographic series, Dubravka Lazić turns her lens toward a subject rarely treated with such a quiet dignity: domestic cats. Shot in 2005, these portraits mimic the formal conventions of ID photography – direct gaze, frontal composition, neutral background – yet their purpose is far from bureaucratic. Each cat is presented as an individual, a personality in its own right. Stripped of decorative context, the animals emerge not as pets or symbols, but as singular beings with distinct presences. Lazić approaches them not with irony or sentimentality, but with the same seriousness we reserve for human portraiture. The result is a subtle play between species, perception and representation.

There is both humor and tenderness in the gesture – an instance that identity is not exclusive to the human face, and that the act of looking can reveal personality across species lines. In these portraits, the cats are not symbols or metaphors. They are themselves.
