This image documents the paradox at the heart of La Notte: a room full of fashion's most recognizable figures performing anonymity through elaborate disguise. The rococo interior—with its gilded moldings, ornate mirrors, and classical proportions—provides temporal disjunction, framing contemporary bodies within eighteenth-century aesthetic codes. This visual collision speaks to fashion's perpetual conversation between historical reference and present performance. Sukan captures the crowd from a slightly elevated perspective, transforming individuals into a tapestry of masks, gestures, and period costumes. The harsh analog flash creates sharp contrasts and visible grain, technical signatures of pre-digital photography that imbue the scene with documentary authenticity rather than glossy perfection. What makes this photograph culturally significant is its preservation of genuine privacy within public gathering—a mode of socializing that Instagram culture would later eliminate entirely. These figures gather to see and be seen by each other, not by millions of followers. The image functions as anthropological document of fashion's social ecosystem during a pivotal transitional moment.

Sükan created the ‘La Notte’ series as he was working for international magazines documenting the fashion shows and backstage as well as the social times of the fashion world in Paris, Milan, London, and NY between the years 2004-2010. ‘La Notte’ is mainly from one specific costume party that is given by Carine Roitfeld of French Vogue in Paris. The party was before the social media era specifically before the Instagram era which makes it very private and has not been shown anywhere else.
