The captivating masterwork Artist Tracey Emin Working (2017) stands as a definitive milestone showcasing the formal sophistication and witty narrative syntax of Manuel Santelices’s acclaimed Art, culture & society series. This exceptional watercolor and gouache painting intentionally challenges the flat stiffness of modern documentation, deploying premium archival paper to float a highly curated and satirical vignette based on art world icons, fame, and mass lifestyle media. Santelices coordinates precise fine-line ink drawings and fluid, translucent grey watercolor washes to build an intimate scene depicting British artist Tracey Emin in her London studio, resting inside a bedroom filled with a chaotic layout of everyday waste, snacks, a tiny dog, and a glowing TV set. Punctuated by a raw, purple handwritten sign that reads "SOMETHINGS WRONG" and a descriptive base line note, this multi-layered artwork functions as a powerful anthropological record of contemporary celebrity culture.

Movies, TV and magazines are constant source of inspiration. Fame, as fleckring and shallow it can be sometimes, is very intriguing to him.
