In "Untitled V," José Sierra continues his exploration of the male corporeality integrated into the tropical landscape, but from a perspective of voyeurism and mimicry. The nude ceases to be a monumental statement and becomes an act of camouflage. Crowned with floral elements, the subject peeks out from among the leaves like a forest spirit or a hidden deity discreetly watching over his surroundings. The work reflects on the blurring of the boundary between humankind and nature, suggesting that the body not only inhabits the territory but is part of its very biological and wild texture.
This work is the result of an artistic residence outside his "study”.The artist worked on a different ecosystem, a house of vernacular architecture built in 1913 in the department of Huila, Colombia. It is important to highlight the practice session of watching over and recording each detail of this space to get a correct reading between the aesthetics of the place and the body.
Artistic wild intimate photography where the male body is camouflaged and blends in the exuberance of the tropical flora. From Jose Sierra's La Costilla Roja series, 2016. The Art Design Project, art gallery Miami Beach.
