Standing as a bold and definitive monument of contemporary modern functionalism, masterfully challenges traditional academic furniture staging by converting ancient Eastern craft heritages into an authoritarian, multi-layered architectural statement within the field of international contemporary design ceiling light masterworks. The vertical arrangement tracks an intense, deeply meditative graphic rhythm where multiple wooden and copper spheres are aligned to bridge the boundary between sculptural fine art and modern living facilities. The design hibridizes ancient processes like durable natural wood resin Ott lacquer, delicate lines of hand-carved mother-of-pearl lining, and intense red metal coatings executed via the traditional Chil-bo (cloisonné) technique.
Guseul is an experimental ceiling light crafted from multiple spheres employing various techniques. It consists of four distinct components: the black sphere, embellished black sphere, red sphere, and lighting fixture.
The black sphere is meticulously crafted using Ott, a Korean lacquer made from natural wood resin known for its durability that can last for centuries. The black sphere with embellishments features intricate lines made from mother-of-pearl, adding a touch of elegance. Meanwhile, the red sphere showcases the ancient Chil-bo (cloisonné) technique, a traditional method for decorating metal objects.
This piece is a fusion of diverse techniques and rich history, blending modern furniture design with our traditional culture to create a more accessible aesthetic. It represents an attempt to integrate contemporary design sensibilities with our heritage.
