Rendered in Chinese ink on 250 g Fabriano paper, the piece features a detailed drawing of a vintage "República de Colombia" 20-cent stamp depicting Christopher Columbus, superimposed over an authentic international express shipping label complete with QR codes and contractual fine print. Spinel contrasts the historical role of the postage stamp as a carrier of national identity and historical narrative against the standardized, transactional nature of global trade documents. The project is based in the contrast of the two drawings, the air waybill and the postage stamp, from different times but similar in their function. The artist seeks to enlighten the change in the use of the image, to reflect on how some languages disappear due to the globalization and new ones emerge with unified visual parameters. Formerly the stamps told stories from a country, a place through their image, nowadays the air waybill is a contract with terms and conditions.
