Blending his architectural eye for layout with a deep conceptual engagement in visual media, Rodrigo Spinel presents the Set of 6 Orchids, featured in The Prints Series under his overarching Terms and Conditions body of work. Produced as Giclée prints on 210 g Hahnemühle Fiber matt paper, this set of six framed works reimagine vintage "Colombia Correos" postage stamps featuring meticulously rendered native orchid species. Spinel celebrates the historical role of the postage stamp as a repository of biodiversity and national story-telling, offering a meaningful counterpoint to the sterile visual standardization of modern logistics. This Colombian orchids fine art prints set serves as a striking polyptych suite, bridging botanical illustration, graphic heritage, and contemporary conceptual art.
The project is based in the contrast of the two images, the air waybill and the postage stamp, from different times but similar in their function. The artist seeks to enlighten the change in the use of the image, to reflect on how some languages disappear due to the globalization and new ones emerge with unified visual parameters. Formerly the stamps told stories from a country, a place through their image, nowadays the air waybill is a contract with terms and conditions.
