Merging his professional architectural discipline with a meditative drawing process, Rodrigo Spinel constructs Bloques Huecos 3 Puntos, a dynamic exploration of spatial depth and volumetric form. Executed in Chinese ink on 250 g Fabriano paper, the artwork presents a soaring array of hollow modular blocks rendered in dramatic three-point perspective, offset by a delicate mint green sky. Spinel handles each hand-drawn stroke with the patience of a bricklayer, demonstrating how repetitive linear marks coalesce into a monolithic structural pattern. Belonging to the Illusions of the Line series, this original perspective architectural drawing stands as an elegant study in optical illusion, geometry, and spatial rhythm.

The project aims to highlight the potential of the line, which, when repeated, is capable of creating complex images. The patience, focus, and perseverance dedicated to constructing the drawing evoke the work of a mason who, brick by brick, assembles everything from the simplest to the most complex structures. Similar to a brick in a wall, the line demonstrates that its value does not lie as an independent unit but as part of a whole. It is within this integration that its full significance is appreciated.

Rodrigo Spinel finds in drawing a way to explore the relevance of detail in the construction of images, objects and spaces. The repetition of tiny elements, such as the line in a drawing, leads to the construction of complex universes where that detail acquires value and becomes the basic unit, like the brick in a wall. The gesture of the repetition of small elements and the time invested in doing so is used as a tool to give “value” to the images that are constructed.
