Rodrigo Spinel’s comic book abstract drawing triptych transforms recognizable comic imagery into a meditation on cultural and economic value. Three vintage-inspired covers—Detective Comics, Action Comics, and Batman—are presented as carefully framed objects, shifting the language of popular print culture into the context of contemporary art. As a reflection on the value we give to objects, this series exposes examples of objects that we use daily and for different reasons end up gaining very high prices. By redrawing them the idea is to generate a conversation about what we consider valuable to ourselves, and how that´s a very relative concept.
